We just crossed under the Verrazano Bridge heading south towards Raritan Bay in my 28ft cabin cruiser headed for Red Bank, NJ. Suddenly I looked west and saw a menacing dark black cloud formation. We were going to be hit with a good storm cell right in the middle of the bay. Well it hit us with the force of a freight train, with all visibility lost, and waves suddenly swelling to almost 7 feet. I remember the rain coming under the canvas sideways stinging the side of my face and when I went to check my mobile phone it was already dead from being waterlogged. With a deep gulp I looked over to my cruising buddy, and before I could say a word, Rick said, this is nothing, I have been thru many of these storms and they blow thru faster than you know it. We're fine. And we were fine, I was with my buddy and I immediately was calmed by his confidence and wisdom. What a privilege it was to have a friend like Rick. A mentor, confident, and one of the greatest friends one could ever wish for. So long good friend, calm seas... and I know you will be messing about on boats up there.
