Obituary of Dr. Rupert Edwards

Dr. Rupert Edwards, 91, of Wesley Chapel, Florida passed away March 1, 2019. He was born in Palmetto Grove, St. Mary, Jamaica to Isaac and Lydia Edwards and moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1984. During his time in Jamaica, Rupert started his college education at Northern Caribbean University, formerly West Indies Training College.  After his time in college he became a Minster of Religion.  As a Minister of Religion, he pastored numerous churches for over 30 years, ran a family business and raised a family. As a Minister of Religion, he also committed his life to serving the poor and needy.

He passionately enjoyed preaching, reading his Bible, ministering to others, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Rupert continued his ministry as an evangelist when he came to the U.S.  He started a prayer and healing ministry for people to pray and seek healing from ailments and sicknesses.  Rupert also continued his education by obtaining his Doctorate of Theology degree from the Jacksonville Theological Seminary. Upon completion of his Doctorate degree, Rupert wrote a book titled “Achievement out of Weakness”, This was a proud moment for Rupert.

Rupert is preceded in death by his brothers, Winston Edwards, Vanhoe Edwards, Roy Edwards, Jerry Edwards, Leslie Edwards; and his sister, Daphne Edwards. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lucille; sons, Christopher Edwards and his wife, Sharon, Andrew Edwards, Jerome Edwards, Paul Edwards and his wife, Andrea, David Edwards and his wife, Morgan, Philip Edwards and Desmond Edwards, his daughters, Allison Edwards, Carole Edwards, Christine Spates, and her husband, Michael;  27 grandchildren: Joshua St John, Kerol, Alecia, Brianda, David, Joshua A, Joseph, John, Jeremiah, Janice, Joyce, Jensine, Jessica, Elena, Leah, Daniel, Abigail, Parker, Elijah, Jaden, Victoria, Celeste, Ruth Ann, Megan, Danielle, Rachael, and Isabel; great grandchildren, Morgan, Olivia, and Canaan; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on March 10, 2019 at the Wesley Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church at 33420 State Road 54 in Wesley Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service.
