Obituary of Wilfred M. Hawkins

Hawkins, Dr. Wilfred M."Bill,"87, died, Wednesday, July 18, 2007,at home in Land O’Lakes, FL. Born in Detroit, MI, and a 1944 University of Michigan Dental School graduate, he practiced in Detroit and then Grosse Pointe, MI, and served as a Major in the US Army Dental Corps during the Korean War, returning to his dental practice in Grosse Pointe in 1955. In 1985, he retired to Naples, FL, moving to Land O’Lakes in 2001 after the death of his beloved wife of 52 years, Tekla Marie Hawkins (Teddy). Dr. Hawkins was also preceded in death by infant son David Bruce Hawkins, and sister Peggy Manley (Tom) of Tampa, FL. He is survived by daughter, Dr. Patricia D.Hawkins of Waldorf, MD; son, Mark F.Hawkins, of St. Clair Shores, MI; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Barbara Hawkins of Land O' Lakes; grandchildren, Elizabeth M.Hawkins and Sarah A. Hawkins of Grosse Pointe; nephews Thomas Manley (Meredith) and Richard Manley of Tampa; Scott Hawkins (Lisa) of West Palm Beach, FL; Lawrence Williams of Grosse Pointe; niece Susan Milani (Anthony) of Coto de Caza, CA; and numerous great nephews and nieces. He is also survived by special friends Mae Giraldi of Atlanta, GA; Gail Johnson, and Lorraine Amaral, of Land O’Lakes; Dr. Robin Halprin of Waldorf; by many others whose support he so appreciated; and finally, by his wonderful dog Katie, the companion who greatly enriched his final years. Land O'Lakes, FL 34638, in memory of Bill and in honor of Katie, or to a charity of your choice. Memorial service to be held Saturday, July 28, 2007, at 10 a.m.at the Loyless Funeral Home, Land O’Lakes.
