Obituary of Lahoma Jean Barber

BARBER, L. Jean Clarady Hammond, 91, of New Port Richey, FL, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 24, 2006. She was born to Russell and Rhoda (Blanchard) McLachlan on July 6, 1915, in Cushing, OK. She married Ralph Clarady on October 28, 1933. She came to New Port Richey in 1975 from Evart, MI. She was an active member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, honorary member of Seven Springs Ladies Golf Association, and Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was a positive influence in the lives of many young children as a teacher in the Evart, Farwell & Reed City, MI areas. She was a founder of Rose Lake Youth Camp in LeRoy, MI and served as it’s treasurer for many years. She was a member and past president of the Evart Women’s Club and former member of the Evart United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, golfing, bridge, traveling and sports. She was a graduate of Evart High School in 1931 and Central Michigan University in 1963. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph, who passed away in 1960, Glen Hammond whom she married in 1970, he passed away in 1985, Grant Barber whom she married in 2001, he passed away in 2005, sisters Rhoda Pitts, Shirley Bentley, Louise Pettit, brothers, Elmer & Paul. She is survived by 3 daughters, Jan Pettit(Leon) of Canadian Lakes, MI & New Port Richey, FL, Mickey Head(Jim) of Evart MI & Leesburg, FL, Carol Posey(David) Of Reed City, MI & Hudson, FL; 1 son, Bob Clarady(Pam) of Leesburg, FL; brothers, John McLachlan(Lois), Archie McLachlan(Lynn); sisters, Barbara White(Harry), Mary Rhody, Jane Kneisel(Eldon) Joan Morcom, Eva Williams(Dale; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; Grant’s daughters, Lelia Eagloski & Gerry Brown(Dick) & special step grandchildren, Peter Hill & Courtney Hill Tierney(Leam); and many nephews & nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made in her name to Asbury United Methodist Church, the Evart United Methodist Church of the Hospice Chapter of your choice.
