Obituary of Violet Ivern Peterson

PETERSON, Violet Ivern, 88, of Land O’Lakes, Florida peacefully passed away Christmas day surrounded by her children. She was a true Florida “Cracker” born in Tampa and raised in a log cabin in Land O’Lakes. Violet was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Land O’Lakes where she was proud that her son, David is the Senior Pastor. She taught the adult ladies Sunday school class for many years and was involved in many other aspects of serving at her church. Violet especially loved helping out at the “store” during Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed having lunch with her lady friends after Sunday morning services. She was also a member of the Land O’Lakes Garden Club and the Red Hat Society. Violet was strong in her faith and taught her children to love and serve the Lord. She was wise with her finances and worked as a bookkeeper until she retired. Violet loved her grandchildren and made sure to faithfully attend every special event of their lives. She loved getting her hair done every week and having her nails manicured. She enjoyed gardening in her rose garden. Her close family referred to her as “Snookie” and her grandchildren called her “Nanny.” Violet loved her initials that spelled VIP and even had them printed on a license plate. She is preceded in death by parents, William and Jessie Thompson; and her loving husband of 38 years, Carl H. Peterson. Violet is survived by two sons, Randy Peterson and his wife Lisa; David Peterson and his wife, Denise; one daughter Lydia Foxx and her husband, Steve; nine grandchildren, Cathy, Carla, Sylvia, Michelle, Cindy, Sarah, Stephen, Matthew and Maegan; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Land O’Lakes, Saturday, December 29 at 4:00 p.m. with visitation from 2:30 – 4:00. Burial in the First Baptist Cemetery will follow the funeral service. Donations may be made in Violet’s honor to Lifepath Hospice (www.chaptershealth.org).
